Susman Godfrey partner Marc Seltzer has been named by The Recorder as a 2017 “Giant Slayer” as part of its annual Litigation Departments of the Year awards. Seltzer, head of Susman Godfrey’s Los Angeles office, was one of just four attorneys selected by The Recorder for this prestigious honor.
Named a “Giant Slayer” for his ability to “best bigger opponents,” Seltzer is recognized in large part for taking on the world’s largest animation companies, including Disney, Pixar, Lucasfilm Ltd., Dreamworks and Sony, on behalf of animation industry employees in In re: Animators Workers Antitrust. Seltzer was co-lead counsel for plaintiffs representing a class of approximately 10,000 animation workers in this antitrust action where over $168 million was recovered in settlements resolving claims over “gentlemen’s agreements” between animation companies not to poach one another’s employees.
This win is nothing new for Seltzer, who has successfully represented plaintiffs in numerous national class actions. Seltzer has taken on and secured multi-million dollar settlements with major corporations such as Toyota, Korean Airlines, Petroleum Development Corporation and car part manufacturers in In Re: Automotive Parts Antitrust Litigation – the latter for which nearly a billion dollars in partial settlements have already been secured.
Seltzer has been previously recognized for his accomplishments, having been named a “Class Action MVP” by Law360 in 2014 and a “Top Plaintiff’s Lawyer” by the Los Angeles Daily Journal in 2016. Seltzer was also a driving force behind Susman Godfrey’s recognition as “Class Action Group of the Year” by Law360 in 2017.
