Overview
Raj Mathur represents plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes litigation around the nation. Raj has litigated in many practice areas, including securities, breach of contract, employment, antitrust, and inheritance disputes. WORK HIGHLIGHTS
In 2023, Raj represented Kevin Brown in Delaware Chancery Court in a dispute related to wrongfully withheld compensation. Raj led discovery efforts, took critical depositions, argued and won motions, and put on the first witness at trial. The case resulted in a complete victory for Brown (and is currently on appeal). Raj also represents a putative class of investors in securities litigation against Grant Cardone. In 2022, Raj prevailed at the Ninth Circuit when he persuaded the Court to reverse the district court’s dismissal of this case. The Ninth Circuit’s ruling created important precedent protecting investors, making clear that issuers on social media are “sellers” under the Securities Act of 1933 and therefore subject to liability for untrue statements.
Raj now represents more than 25 plaintiffs in In re Rail Freight Fuel Surcharge Litigation, an antitrust MDL pending in federal court in Washington, D.C. who allege the nation’s major freight railroads conspired to fix prices by imposing rate-based fuel surcharges in the 2000s. Raj has taken and defended significant depositions in this matter.
